… will the mice play? I’m off on holiday this week, so while I’m away I want you to talk amongst yourselves and I’m offering prizes of CDs for the most prolific writer and the funniest or best writer.
The photo is my cat Doppy, or Doppler. I’m off to the Devon/Somerset border for a few peaceful days with some good books to read and my ipod to listen to.
I’m going to suggest two topics to write about:
1. Why are Flutewise courses worth attending
2. How can we get more Flutewise members

My answers:
1. Flutewise courses are worth attending Because they are!
2. How to get more flutewise members: Send leaflets and posters to schools in all areas advertising flutewise – and maybe facts about flute player?
Thomas
Flutewise courses are worth attending because they’re FUN. Oh and improve your playing – but that’s one for parents! :0)
And getting more members – well you just have to prove how worth wile flutewise is to people. I jus not quite sure how.

Oh and with a LONG week without an internet connection I seem to have missed alot of posts on the blog. O
Hi everyone!
Sorry i haven’t been on the blog for ages but I’ve been pretty busy.
anyway, flutewise courses are worth attending because you benefit so much and learn things that many flute players don’t get the oppurtunity to learn; you meet new friends too and you get to play in an environment where everyone is mad about the same instrument and it’s not often you get that!
So how do we get more members? Well….you could put posters up everywhere……tell all your friends…give info to your flute teacher and just persuade everyone!
Practise hard !But enjoy it too!!!! Love Lucy xxx
Hi All,
Flutewise courses are worth attending because you get to make new friends and penpals. Also we you get to meet really famous flute players and people who are extremely good at what they do!
To sell Flutewise more, do we have any successes regarding young players who followed flutewise and turned out doing something amazing like Stephen Clarke or anyone else? If we can market flute stars, surely people would want to aspire to greater things and follow too? Who knows – none so queer as folk! But what does everyone else think?

I’ve tried to post two comments now with no success!!

How very odd. Keep trying, I guess.
We’ll be moving the blog soon, which should get rid of these problems (and show up a whole load of new ones).

Hi Liz
Hope you have had a good break. I thought I would write about flutewise courses as I have been both a participant and a teacher. Here goes, they are brilliant because:
it can be very lonely playing an instrument, practising for hours on your own (and as a teacher too, as you don’t always have contact with other teachers) so it is great to be able to talk to other like minded people.
it is good to get hints and tips from other teachers as they may approach things from a slightly different angle
you get opportunity to play in lots of groups – small, large as well as individually in a friendly atmosphere and get to play music you haven’t playrd before or music you like and want to play again , and again, and again……
it’s fun. There is more to flute playing than exams (although they do have their place!) but to play for sheer enjoyment and be able to socialise too (without flutes) is great.
the enthusiasm on courses is infectious – it helps to boost confidence in students and can illustrate what is actually possible to achieve.
All abilities are embraced on the courses – we were all beginners once and it a unique opportunity to nuture a love and enthusiasm for music in younger players.
About getting more members – that is a difficult one. What about a Flutewise Road Show – nor sure how it could be implemented. Would it be possible to contact local radio or tv stations to cover it as ‘an event’ travelled to different locations – perhaps a different location each month over a 4 month period, for starters!!? As I said, not sure what, how, who etc. but will give it some more thought!
Speak to you soon
Barbara
Meant to say…
Doppy loks like he has a bad smell under his nose – or maybe he is just miffed about being left with Andy again!! (sorry Andy)

Hi guys.
It has been ages since I blogged on here (“blogged” – is that the right expression???).
Anyways, I love reading all your comments on here – they are highly entertaining! I just wanted to share with you something that happened to me yesterday. I was in Carlisle playing with an orchestra. It was an orchestra I had not played wth before so I was just there for the week as a guest player. Anyway we sat down at 10am to start the rehearsal for a concert that night and the lady playing 2nd flute beside me opened up her case. And lo and behold there was no flute in it!!!! She was absolutely horrified but I thought it was kind of funny. Turns out she had left it at home and after practicing did not put it back in her case. So when she went to leave the house she just picked up the empty case. In the end, all was fine. She raced home and was back in time for rehearsal after lunch. The conductor was a bit mean to her later though as a result! Im sure there is a lesson in there somewhere.
Anyway, I hope you all had a good summer and for those of you back at school – ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
I am off to practice now becuase I have a very exciting tour coming up where I am visiting Egypt, Lybia and Malta. should be fun but the music is very, very hard though so a bit worried. Anyway looking forward to seeing many of you again soon.
love,
Stephen.

Wow a Flutewise roadshow! That would be AMAIZING – if a nightmare to do.
And Stephen – enjoy your tour, but there’s no nead to rub it in about some of us being stuck in a classroom for hours and hours every day.
The only advantage of being at school is the orchestra which somehow I managed to get into (I changed school this year (again!)). I don’t know how I did it – but like Barbara said above – playing music with other people is fun/insperational etc, and I LOVE (but we have some hard music in my opinion). We also have a flute choir. So lot sof music to be had all in all.
What about other people out there though – do your schools have flute choirs/orchestras etc?
