I get sent loads of things for potential review in the magazine. I thought this was great for the first 6 months of Flutewise, but 20 years down the track, it is no longer exciting when the postman delivers yet another music book or CD, they just add to my ever-growing pile.
I feel a great burden of responsibility for everything that does arrive as I know that behind every product some one or some people have worked exceptionally hard and really believe in the value of what they have produced. Sadly there aren’t enough hours in the day and space in the magazine to cover everything properly and many products are quite mediocre.
I hate books with badly set out page turns and CDs which don’t have track listings when I open then in iTunes.
Today I listened to a new arrival in awe. I enjoyed it so much I listened to it twice – and put it on pause when I went to make coffee and had a trip to the loo. It is really refreshing.
The CD is ‘Michael Nyman Yammamoto Perpetuo for solo flute transcribed and performed by Andy Findon’. It’s beautiful, you should get a copy. Even though it has no iTunes CD listings I still like it!
Andy Findon’s website is worth checking out.
