eMagazine

Flutewise members: your winter Flutewise magazine should have arrived.

We hope you enjoy Flutewise Issue 81.

It’s full to the brim with interesting things for all of our members.

We’ve some great pieces in our 2nd Flutewise Pull-Out Music Book - a round, Rock a my Soul, an unaccompanied piece by Blavet, a new duet by Jerry Randalls inspired by Brahms, Gluck’s Dance of the Blessed Spirits (a piece every flute player should know) and a fabulous piece for flute and piano, All Those Endearing Young Charms arranged by Gareth McLearnon. This last pieces is from Gareth’s new book, ‘Round Ireland with a Flute. You’ll love it. The music section has green pages this time.

For this issue we’ve been looking at tuners and metronomes with the help of Dean Stallard and Flutewise course members. It’s fascinating how many different types there are available ad you’ll be intrigued to learn which ones were our favourite.

Carla Rees tells us about alto flutes which is very interesting.

Abbie Burrows has changed her Fluteland story this issue into Tooty’s Adventures. It is very, very funny, Tooty goes on a tour of London and there is a policeman involved!

We’ve got a bigger news section than usual with information about Flutewise Live!, our next course at Abbotsholme and our day events.

There are all of your usual favourite articles - in Flute Care with Ian McLauchlan he looks at which is the best material to make a flute out of.
David Nicholson is featured in the Microbiography and Eli Hudson is our Heavenly Flute Player.
We’ve lots to interest teachers with Mimi Stillman sharing her thoughts on Teaching Beginners with lovely photos of her little niece and Lindy Thwaites writes about the Prep Test, teaching theory and our recent course for teachers.
In Alledgedly there is something about examiners wanting scales faster to save on heating. Carla Woods has written our Members’ Column about her fundraising for Woodlarks Campsite.

Along with all of this are your letters and some competition and quizzes. There is also the chance to enter competitions and win the opportunity to have a flute day for your school thanks to John Packers.
As well as the magazine we’ve also been planning some great Flutewise events. Alongside all of our incredibly successful residential courses we are planning Flutewise Live! (an amazingly huge flute event) at the Barbican Centre in May 2009.
