Ealing Flute Academy

An old friend of mine, Chris Hankin together with Mary-Ann Oakley, has just started a new flute venture – the Ealing Flute Academy. It is being held at London College of Music, Thames Valley University, St Mary’s Road, London W5 on alternate Sunday mornings between 10.30 and 12.00 during term time.

The dates for this term are 27 Jan, 10 and 24 Feb, 9 March.
If you are a player of Grade 5 standard and above you will really enjoy the activities. The repertoire is bound to be great as Chris has great experience especially with her connections with Just Flutes.
If you are interested, you can just turn up at a rehearsal or you can get more information by sending me your email address and I’ll pass it onto Chris. Please don’t leave your personal details in the comments box but use the ‘Contact Page’ to send me an email, or my personal email address if you have it.

No one’s posting on the blog anymore! What’s happening?

    Hello, I’m still here!
I’d love a baroque flute but I know that my teacher created problems for herself by switching to a flute with a bigger stretch. Is it possible to switch by playing tiny amounts every day and building up?

Do you still have plans for a flute and harp course Liz? My sister’s nagging me to ask!!!
The flute academy sounds great, will it be as much fun as a flutewise course?

What was the embouchure like liz?
I tried out an old german flute recently and had to spread my bottom lip far more than I’m used to doing.

I suppose I better prove I’m still here too!

I just have had nothing to put. It’s a bit sad.

Perhaps somebody should think of a really good topic that we can post our views on…

Has anyone got any tips for keeping the very top register (up to high C) fluent and clear when you’re playing scales quite fast? I practise them slowly and get it right, but when I go faster, I can’t get it quite there.
