Comments, not on the photo (it is quite a nice cow, isn’t it?) but have you been trying to leave comments and they haven’t appeared? I’ve copied an email sent to me from Jack this morning. If you post a comment and it doesn’t appear, would you be kind enough to send me an email? Andy has been saying we are changing the blog to something else. When we do, I hope we get rid of these problems. Then again, we’ll probably find some new ones!

Of course you are welcome to comment on my cow photo. You could even write a poem!

    Message for Flutewise: Hi Liz,
I thought I’d send an email because my blog messages aren’t getting posted and I’ve sent loads!! I thought it might be a good idea to have a comp. to see how many new members each current member could get in, say, a month! The prize could be a lesson with you! The reason many of my friends don’t join is because they can’t travel for courses.Although I think they may be able to pursued their parents if they’d tried a local day course first and could really see the benefits for themselves.
I’m going to hang up my latest mag on my school music notice board to see if anyone bites!!
I’m having a great time playing at the moment. I got into both youth level county orchestras that I auditioned for, not bad for a flute and my conductor wants me to audition for the national Youth. It’s a busy time! My teacher has introduced me to some amazing Moyse studies which make me feel exhausted by the time I finish them but I can really hear the difference in my playing – so it’s worth it!
I’m hoping to get to a course later this year.

On a different thread – has anyone else out there had dealings with the new ABRSM books? I’ve been given the grade 6 one by my teacher and I think it’s so much better having all the pieces in one book. Also the CD is a really good idea, so you can listen to how the borad’s take on it.

And Project:Flutewise was how I got into Flutewise. One day events. I think alot of it is expericencing to realise the benifits.

Oh and on the subject of blog comments – before you close the comment window (or however it appears on your internet)scroll up to the top and make sure there is a message saying comment has been saved and will be displayed after blog owner aproval otherwise you need to click publish comment again – it sometimes does that to me. Hope it makes sense!

    Hi
My flute teacher said he was listening to Kirsten Spratt’s recording of Widor and i was able to say that her warmups of Flute Courses are amazing – they’re always fun when she’s there!! She’s also an amazing flautist as all course helpers are!
Also – i love the cow – you should photoshop it so it has a flute in its mouth – would give it the flutewise spirit! :)

    Hello, Jack here!
I’m doing rather a lot of playing atthe moment. Three orchestras and four wind bands a week plus my usual practice at home. Half the music isn’t demanding at all and the other half is tricky and I really have to pay attention to what I’m doing!! My flute teacher says it’s fine providing I’m paying attention to tone, co-ordination etc as though I was playing a solo. I just wondered, has anyone at or around 13 had any physical problems from so much playing? I do enjoy it but I’ve read about musicians having repetitive stain injuries etc…
    Jack
    PS Happy Birthday Thomas!!

    Hi everyone
There are loads and loads of people with the same first name and qute a few with the same surname and fewer still who share both names. I recall we have at least two people called Lucy Smith.

Loads of people share birthdays! Happy birthday everyone.

Repetitive strain injury is a great worry for all of you very keen young flute players. I’ll see if we can have
    an article on it soon.

I had problems with rsi when I was at college and practising 5+ hours a day. I had to get physio on my wrist and wear a splint for several months. It did clear up eventually and haven’t had major problems since. At that time I had an open holed, inline G which may have addedt o the problem but I think that I wasn’t making sure that my hands were relaxed enough! I now play with an offset G as I did have have a couple of twinges in my wrist a couple of years back and felt that a change wouldn’t do any harm and I LOVE my new (well, 2 1/2 years old).
The problem with rsi is when you get it, it is too late to prevent it (if that makes sense). Usually you get it because you play lots and you play lots whether it is for concerts, exams, orchestras etc and you need to be able to play lots.
The best thing is to consciously relax your fingers during practise, don’t ‘grip’ your flute too tight and your muscles won’t rebel and say – hey, I can’t cope with this!!!
