Progress on the new website stuff is progressing really quickly now. It’s all being kept secret – even Liz hasn’t seen all of it (which is mainly because she is so busy with so many other exciting Flutewise things!) – but it is well worth the wait.

One thing that is requested (quite a lot!) is merchandise. T-shirts, mugs, pens and pencils are ideas that have been kicking around for a while. We’ve looked around various sources and there are – literally – thousands of different products that we can make Flutewise-y. It’d really help us if you could let us know what you would like to see.

There’s a poll after the break (if you click on the “more” link after this post) which has ten options that seem the most likely – but if you have any other ideas please send us your comments. What would you like to see?

“I would like to see some of those strange, little, furry bugs with the ribbons attached to the bottom.”

That kind of thing. Let your imagination fly – we could even have Flutewise roller blinds!

Thanks, Andy.

Flutewise Website Changes

Hi. This is Andy, your hard-working, ever-busy Flutewise webmaster here. It was quite shocking to find the website disappear two (or so) weeks ago. Unfortunately, it isn’t recoverable – gone for good – never to be seen again.

Luckily, Liz and I have had plans for a whole new website with many new features. Since the old website popped its mortal coil, we’ve been looking into the feasibility of some of our ideas and we’d like to ask you – our most loyal visitors – what you would like to see.

Abbotsholme 1

As promised, here is a bit about Abbotsholme – just a bit because I’m quite busy with the magazine and other things.

It was a lovely course, due to the exceptional people involved. I don’t just mean the staff (although they are all superb) but all of the course members were exceptional – keen, excellent flute players and, more importantly to my mind, fantastic people.

Andy & I travelled up to Abbotsholme on Monday as it is such a long journey for us. We were joined on Monday night by Chris Baxter and David Nicholson and we went out for an excellent curry in the village of Rocester. It was really good, highly reccomended. Abbie and Gareth arrived very, very late.

On Monday morning Andy, Gareth, Abbie and Chris disappeared somewhere, don’t know where, so David and I went to Uttoxeter for coffee. When we got back I started to get the place ready for everyone arriving. Names were put up on doors of bedrooms and bathrooms were labelled. Emma and Nicola were coming along as ‘helpers’ and they were the first to arrive with Lucy. Then it was the onslaught. The worst bit of the course is signing in and waiting for everyone to arrive. But it all happened and we had a quick meeting with parents – very few stayed so maybe I should drop that idea – then we said goodbye to them and played a few warm up games. The helpers and older course members helped everyone to their rooms and showed them around the building.

We then had a flute choir session – Brahm’s Hungarian Dance No 5 arr by Colin Fleming before our fire drill – which was a real farce. The first fire exit was partially blocked so it took ages to get everyone out and then it was blocked at the bottom of the stairs. Then came dinner, a bit more playing and bed time for some, social time for others.

More tomorrow (I hope).

Erich and Delia’s presents

Here am I back from a great course at Abbtsholme. I’ll tell you lots about it soon, but first of all ………. that present from Erich.

It was a pillow, sent through the post with no wrapping at all and addressed to ‘Queen Liz’ (I’m cool with that title). On the back of the pillow it has ‘Purple Cow Pillow’ and Erich, plus lots of his young flute people, have signed it. It is an amazing gift!

Now one of our course members, Delia, is one of Erich’s students in Dallas. She was over visiting her grandaprents and came to our course. She brought me an amazing present – some purple cow biscuits! You can see 3 of them on the pillow. They were very yummy and another amazing present, so very thoughtful.

Many thanks to Erich and Delia – and long live the purple cow!
