Another course coming up

I don’t seem to have posted much recently, sorry. I’ve been busy with planning for the course and trying to get grant applications completed.

I have been very impressed with the comments people leave – thank you all of you, it makes life interesting for all of us.
I’m really looking forward to our course at Ovingdean next week. We are starting with a 24 hour flute choir rehearsal and then we go into our weekend course. I’ve been sorting out music and trying to work out what we will play at the end of course concert. It is going to be in 2 parts. The first part will be in St Wulfren’s Church, which is beautiful but small and we can’t really get everyone in with music stands, so most of the music for that will be memorised. Then we’ll play some flute ensemble music, from music, back at Ovingdean Hall school.
I wonder what the new course members will think about having to memorise their music!
Keep leaving those comments.

I’ll never forget the Royal Festival Hall concert – that was the first time I’d had to memorise music, but it really paid off… Now I try to do any competition piece off by heart, it makes it more impressive and might mean the winning mark between you and someone with the music – crafty!!

It also helps if you memorise any tricky patches, as you can really concentrate on getting your fingers coordinated, without the bother of thinking what note comes next. You can also practise those little bits whenever you can, like before an orchestra rehearsal, as you will not need the music to practise them.

Surely we all have some experiance in memorising music. Scales. But logically the more music we memorise, the better our scales will become.

Sadly I will not be on the course.
