Last night I went to another Christmas concert. I’m sure you’ll be interested in this one because it was given by our friend James Cairns and some of his musical friends and pupils. It was held at Brighton College and it was in aid of the Argus Appeal. I hope they raised lots of money, it seemed like they did.
Joleigh and Jean came with me. This made it all the more special. Many of you know Joleigh, but few of you have met Jean. She is the opposite end of the age range to Joleigh, but her passion and enthusiasm for the flute can’t be matched. She is such a joy to take to a concert because she always loves everything! Last night was no exception. We all really enjoyed it.
It was a varied programme with audience carols at the beginning and end. Most of the performers – flute, piano and clarinet – were taught by James and aged from a boy who looked about 10 to very, very grown up people.
James also performed a movement from Mozart’s flute and harp concerto accompanied by Andrew Ballantyne on harp and Neil Carter on piano. Great stuff.
The Mozart flute and harp can also be heard tonight, played by Sir James and the LSO. I couldn’t go due to other commitments. If you went please share your thoughts about it with us all.
I’m still worried about magazines not arriving – I’ve checked with Robin our printer and they all went out together. If yours doesn’t arrive by Saturday please let me know, an email would be better than a message in the comments box as comments don’t give me a return email address.

Hi Liz!
Shock horror to see me on your blog! Thank you so much for coming and also for bringin Joleigh and Jean – what two lovely people!
I am now at home with a chest infection, that clearly started before my concert and hopefully trying to rest before going away for christmas. I’m off to see my good friend Param Vir who lives in Fulham, he is a composer and has produced compositions for orchestras internationally.
The evening seemed to go well and I look forward to our summer concert too.
Anyway – I didn’t practise yesterday and I am hoping to soon. Or maybe i’ll write something interesting for the next magazine!
Happy Christmas to you and to everyone! May the new year be filled with fresh fluting activities!!
Love
James
