I got very excited about this concert and I thought we might have been able to get together a nice little group to go to it. The flute player is excellent. Then I saw the time and date. I think most people will be in school. If interested and able, let me know.

Concert sounds fab but school is a problem!!
Thanks to everyone who replied about the rsi. It is a bit of a worry I did have a stiff little finger for a while after I switched to open holes but it’s been ok for ages. The open holes have actually helped my hands relax because they’re in a better position so hopefully it won’t come back!
It would be good to see an article in flutewise, thanks Liz
Too right Jack – school is just a bit of a minor drawback! If only it was a week later and in half-term…
And I agree – it’d be good to have an article about flute playing injuries. I sometimes have had a stiff little finger (but not since I got my open holes – interestingly) but i always put it down to the muscle siezing up, a bit like a form of cramp.

Which little finger, Rachel, left or right?
Jack
Right. I’ve never had problems with my left. Which one for you?

Recently, I have suffered from a really painful right shoulder. It is mainly when I’m playing in orchestras, sitting down. My teacher has given me some stretches to do before I play, and has told me to go to physio if it doesn’t go away… does anyone else have any ideas for what to do? Has anyone else had this problem?
The concert sounds great – I wish I could come, but it’s too far away =(

Hi Cathy! i get that problem too when I’m sitting in orchestras or sometimes when I have to look at the music from a funny angle. I have to do these stretches that my chairopractor showed me and they do help but it also helps if you keep your shoulders really relaxed when your playing. Hope your problem goes away!……
Love from Lucy x x x
Thanks! Yeah, thats what my teacher has told me to do, but I look like a bit of a fool swinging my arms in the air just before rehearsal!!
