We are just about ready to send this magazine off to the printers (I hope!) but we need a bit of help.

Lots of people have commented how much they like the pull-out music section. Did you notice the paper was coloured? Did you find this useful? It was pale yellow. What colour do you think we should use for this magazine? We’d really appreciate yor help – quickly! Thanks. Read More »

I know everyone loves Wendy’s amazing covers. She is so talented. Wendy has produced every cover since the first one – over 20 years! She also does incredible sculptures.

I’ve just had an email from her with great news:

just to let you know that my picture “Thinking of Zimbabwe” has been accepted for exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London. The exhibition is called Art Liberating Lives, in aid of Sue Ryder Care, and runs from 11th to 18th of december. (entry free but donations asked for) If you are unable to get to the exhibition, pieces can be viewed on line on the Sue Ryder Care, Art Liberating lives website. I’m very excited to be selected – looking forward to the preview night (tickets for that also available for £20 – had to buy one for John!) Fame at last and must finish my website!!!
Love

Sorry I haven’t posted for quite some days. Two reasons – I’ve been busy with the magazine and no one has left any comments. Comments really spur me on. Maybe someone could leave one today.

The magazine is well on it’s way. I’ve been up to my eyes pulling an article together about tuners and metronomes today. My desk is full of the things. It’s really interesting having 6 or 7 metronomes beating together! You’ll have to wait for the magazine to find out which we liked the most. I have become very attached to one tuner, it’s really good.

Alongside the magazine, I’m trying to get my head around the big Barbican event. I know it will be great fun, I just need to get all the planning done.

I’ve had a couple of trips up to Just Flutes in Croydon over the last week. My flute was playing up – although I did at one stage think it was just my lack of regular practice. I was relieved to learn it wasn’t and my flute needed a couple of new pads and some adjustments. Ian McLauchlan is brilliant! It was good to see Jonathan Myall there as well and discuss some inovations for the flute learning world.

Last Sunday we had a great rehearsal for the Christmas concert Fluetwise is taking part in. The people who turned up were fantastic – but I’d be much happier if I had more players. Can YOU help out and play. You’ll find the rehearsal details on the events page. Let me know if you can come. Please!

Listening

I get sent loads of things for potential review in the magazine. I thought this was great for the first 6 months of Flutewise, but 20 years down the track, it is no longer exciting when the postman delivers yet another music book or CD, they just add to my ever-growing pile.

I feel a great burden of responsibility for everything that does arrive as I know that behind every product some one or some people have worked exceptionally hard and really believe in the value of what they have produced. Sadly there aren’t enough hours in the day and space in the magazine to cover everything properly and many products are quite mediocre.

I hate books with badly set out page turns and CDs which don’t have track listings when I open then in iTunes.
Today I listened to a new arrival in awe. I enjoyed it so much I listened to it twice – and put it on pause when I went to make coffee and had a trip to the loo. It is really refreshing.

The CD is ‘Michael Nyman Yammamoto Perpetuo for solo flute transcribed and performed by Andy Findon’. It’s beautiful, you should get a copy. Even though it has no iTunes CD listings I still like it!
Andy Findon’s website is worth checking out.
