Worrying Times

I’ve had a very interesting and happy few days. We’ve been very busy at home with having a floor done. It’s nearly finished, but it’s left lots of other jobs needing doing like decorating. It’s worrying me because I can’t decide on colours.

Today Gareth McLearnon and James Cairns came to lunch ( I wanted to put their photo here, but I can’t work out how to do it, so I’ll post it later). It was really good to see them both and chat about all things flutey. I was really thrilled that James brought me an amazing present – orchids, pictured above. Aren’t they beautiful? But I’m now really, really worried! What a responsibility looking after such a superb plant!! I’m terrified! How often do I water it? Do I feed it? If so, what on? Where should I let it live? I taught Joleigh and Juliet this evening and made them play a tune to it – so if it dies it’s their fault!
Any advice anyone can offer will be gratefully received.

Thanks to all of us

Andy worked hard yesterday on a new ‘Events Mini Site’. Check it out – and book to come to some events!

The day event we were planning for Sun 13 January at Ovingdean, Brighton has been changed to Sat 8 March, for many, many reasons which were all beyond my control.
It looks a very exciting few months and I hope to meet you at at least one of them.
Let me know what you think of the site – and if we’ve missed anything out.

Strange Things People Do

This has nothing whatsoever to do with the flute or music ……… I just feel like sharing it.

I find my self constantly saying ‘we live in a mad world’ – we do. I went shopping to the supermarket today. At the checkout there was a well-dressed woman of about 30 with a few things in her basket. The goods came to £6.22. When asked to pay, she asked the cashier to hold out his hand and emptied the contents of her purse into it. There were a good many low denomination coins. She told the cashier she wanted to pay her bill with the coins and whatever was outstanding she would put on a credit card. The cashier counted the money, it took quite some time and came to £4.10. The £2.10 was put on her credit card. Why did she just not put all of it on there? Who knows.

Congratulations

I seem to hear a piece of good news almost every day about our Flutewise members – Jo Matthews emailed me to day to tell me about her Grade 7 result, excellent and I heard from several of you before Christmas, I recall Ellie Ricards was one with her Grade 8. Let me know if you’ve just passed an exam or got into a music school/college/university, you can email me or leave a message in the comments box.

Emma Chevis sent me a text just before Christmas to tell me she has just been offered a place to read music at Oxford and Mair Roberts will be joining her but to read languages. Incredible news girls, very well done. (Let me know if I haven’t got those details right, Christmas can fog up the brain a bit).
James Cairns did the rounds of music college auditions before Christmas and I know he received a number of excellent offers. We’d love to know more James.
Big congratulations need to go to my lovely postman. His wife has just had their first baby, a little girl – called Elizabeth! Now that’s a good name!!!
