Stephen!!!!!!!!

Can you believe this! Stephen came down to stay with me yesterday afternoon for the Flutewise events in Portslade and Tonbridge. We were a bit worried about the numbers coming to both events – not enough for Portslade and far too many for Tonbridge. Why is that I wonder? Anyway, Stephen had the brilliant idea of having a wander around the local area and finding people who play the flute. We’ve got a fairground in our park at the moment and we thought this would be a great place. So we asked these policemen. Do you think they came to our event? Is Stephen looking worried in the photo?
More about the event and the fun fair soon………..

How about this for good organisation? We’ve got a wonderful Flutewise event starting at 2.000 pm this Saturday at Portslade Town Hall followed by a Fun Fair on Victoria Park which is just next door! Are you coming? If you want to and haven’t booked yet, please give me a ring or send me an email. More details about the event are in a couple of posts below.

Things that make me happy – 3

I came home today after a hard day and was really cheered up by an email with this photo attached. It was from Barbara Sykes who writes:

“Been meaning to send this pic of our kitten Saphie, she loves my metronome! She also loves to come and listen to lessons – she will climb on the back of a chair to try to catch the ends of flutes!
Then she will settle down on a hot spot on the floor and go to sleep. She particularly likes to be serenaded to sleep by my flute choir.”

Isn’t she sweet? Do you have a musical pet?

Flutewise in Portslade

The photo is of the inside of Portslade Town Hall at a recent Flutewise event with Philippe Barnes and Tom Phelan. It’s a beautiful hall with really good acoustics. There’s also free parking and the Holmbush Centre is not far away (a huge M&S and Tesco – great for mum to go shopping or have a cup of coffee). We’ve got another event there this Saturday afternoon with Stephen Clark.

Everyone raelly enjoys working with Stephen and I know we’ll have fun on Saturday. The event is from 2.00 – 3.30 pm and is open to all flute players aged 8 to 19 and their teachers. But you have to pre-book, although that is easy, an email or phone call will do. If you want to come you can email from the website or phone 01273 702367.

If you are coming you need to bring your flute, a music stand (labelled with your name) and a drink if you might need one. We’ll be exploring some strange sounds on your flute (they are called extended techniques, they sound complicated but Stephen makes them very easy to learn) and we’ll play some straightforward ensemble music and Stephen will play for us. I hope you can make it.

What I’ve been up to

That photo looks interesting, doesn’t it? All of these boxes arrived last week and I’ve been so busy with the contents of them that I’ve been stopped from doing all sorts of other things. Can you imagine if that number of boxes arrived outside your front door! We didn’t leave them in the road for too long, they were moved into our dining room – so we could trip over them. If you are a member you’ll find out what is inside of my mysterious boxes soon…

I’ve also been busy writing letters – including one to the head teacher of the school I mentioned on Friday, I had a phone call from the secretary of the school at the end of the day on Friday to confirm they wouldn’t give out Flutewise information to their pupils. If any parents or teachers are reading this, I’d love to know if you think the school is right being so protective.
