Two More Flutewise Events

Pictured above is Stephen Clark with course members at Abbotsholme. Everybody adores Stephen, he is so full of fun. Playing rounders with him and Chris Baxter is something to be experienced! They play by ‘Scottish Rules’ which means there aren’t any rules.

But that aside, the reason I’m telling you about Stephen is that he’s travelling south to do a couple of events for us. If you want to come let me know, you’ll certainly be well entertained. (He’s a much better flute player and teacher than he is at playing rounders).

The events are on Saturday 19 May at Portslade Town Hall, Brighton, in the afternoon and all day on Sunday 20 May at the Judd School, Tonbridge.

Hope to see you there.

Things that make me happy – Petersfield

I’m just back from a lovely flute day in Petersfield. I feel very happy and honoured to be able to do such things. This event was thanks to local flute teacher Sarah Craven who helped to organise the event and organised these beautiful flowers. Flowers also make me happy – until they die.

It was a really good day. Mike Mower came along to share his huge expertise. He had everyone warming up to a million scales and dominanat 7ths; he made everyone sightread some of his fiendishly difficult music and rehearsed us all well in his ‘Folk Song Medley’.

Nigel James was there with his fabulous travelling shop and was much appreciated by all.

The best bit? Probably blowing bubbles!!!!!!!!

Repertoire

I’m asked about repertoire more than anything else and I’ve promised people I would write about it on my blog every now and again. People want to know what they can play themselves, what their pupils can play and what ensembles can play. What better choice could there be than the music we have at Flutewise events.

In Belfast recently, Kirsten Spratt, pictured above, performed an excellent evening recital. Here is what she played:
The first two pieces were French.
Hue: Fantaisie
Damase: Sonata en Francais
The next two were from UK composers
Ian Clarke: Hypnosis
Mike Moer: Acadamissions (this is not published)
Then we were taken to the US
Gary Schocker: Regrets and Resolutions
Bill Holcombe: Camptown Races

It was a lovely programme, with Michael McGuffin on piano.

More of this topic soon.

People are leaving comments- hurrah!

Well I’m very pleased I’ve got you leaving comments! I think to keep people guessing, it would be a good idea if no one discloses what other things I do in life – do you agree? Of course you are free to make up a few occupations that you think I might do ………….

The photo was taken at Abottsholme on Thursday night. Why are you all standing with your hands in the air?????????

I don’t just do Flutewise Things

Today has been a busy day doing non-Flutewise things on the whole, although I did have a very nice visit from James, a Flutewise member, this evening. I also had a huge number of telephone messages and emails to come home to. I’m really intrigued that so many people tell me they read and enjoy this blog! So if you are here reading it, please leave a message, it will really help me a lot, because when I’m busy doing my other things in life, people who come here to read this will have something to read. Now if you know me well, you’ll know what I have been doing today and you will also know that it’s a good idea to do as I ask or else…… !!!

If you want to know what else I do in life apart from Flutewise you can always send me an email and ask – I might not tell you of course. Or you could leave your suggetsions of what I might do in the comments box.
