Today I’m off to London to meet Hannah, Lucy, Robbie and Emma. We are going to Broadcasting House, the home of the BBC and they are taking part in the Big Foot programme. It starts at 4.00 pm. You can listen to it live or anytime in the next week on the internet. http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/bigtoe/

I’ll let you know how we get on.

The film is all fine. The next job in the process is for Robin to plan the job and make the plates which he puts on the printing press. He prints the colour pages of the magazine first. This takes 4 days! Each page goes through the press 4 times for the different inks. Digital printing is faster, but we are happy with this old fashioned method. I had a look at the first colour section printed which had lots of Zoe’s photographs and it looks good.

Three more days of this and then another day for the black and white pages. Isn’t it a long process?

Thought you might like to know the progress of the magazine. On Friday I took it to the image bureau to have film made. The film was ready today, so our printer, Robin went up to collect it. Robin has printed every single issue of our magazine, which I think is quite staggering considering we started 19 years ago. He does an excellent job and is extremely helpful. Today he has also printed some newsletters which I’ll be packing and sending out over the next few days, You’ll have to wait until you get yours to see what is in it!

Tomorrow I need to pop in to see Robin and do a final proof of the films. This isn’t a 100% necessary as Robin is so experienced and always calls me if he has a query, but I always like to do it. The printers is about a mile and a bit away from where we live.

Andy and I have quite a bit of work to do tomorrow. There is the summer course leaflet to design and music to go up on our website. We are also going to research a new computer. Our main one is over 6 years old and will really need replacing soon. Now seems like a good time, but it could be quite stressful as we’ll be using new software on it.

I really should do a bit of flute practice tomorrow as well as I haven’t had time today. Yes, I practise my flute – scales and everything else, but not quite as much as I’d like to because Flutewise and everything else takes so much of my time.

On Wednesday this week, 28th February, four Flutewise members are going to BBC Broadcasting House, London, to take part in the Big Foot Radio programme. You will be able to listen on Radio 7 or on the internet for a week afterwards.

The quartet going are Hannah and her sister Lucy, Robbie and Emma. They are all keen Flutewise members and have attended courses so I’m sure they’ll have a lot of good things to say. They won’t have to play their flutes on the radio as we are sending in the recording we did of our concert at the church last weekend. I’ll have to get them to let us know all about the programme. I’ll be going along and I’ll try and take some photos.

I listened to the recording yesterday and I am pleased with it. It isn’t perfect, but there is some great playing. We really should try and record more of our concerts. I’m also sending it off to Disney Resort Paris to see if the National Flutewise Flute Choir can go and perform there. Exciting stuff!

It’s great that people are leaving comments – thank you. I’ll get some information about the course in Kastela, Croatia in the week.

Saturday surprise

I had a lovely surprise when the postman came this morning. Amy and her mum, Elizabeth, had sent me a wonderful present – an umbrella covered with little owls just like Flutey (although this owl must be his cousin because he isn’t playing the flute). It’s great. Now I want it to rain so I can go for a walk and show it off!
